A well-equipped craft room is provided at the clubrooms for use by members wishing to manufacture items of jewellery.
The workshop is open on Monday night 7.00 pm to 10.00 pm, Thursday 9.30 am to 12.30 pm, and Thursday night 8.00 pm to 11.00 pm. It is also open on Saturday from 9.30 am till 12.30 pm and from 1.00 pm till 4.00 pm ( except the first Saturday of each month when the workshop is used all day for enamelling ). Members are required to pay a small fee for using the workshop.
A tuition course for new members wishing to learn how to make items of jewellery or the art of crafting silver is conducted by supervisors with many years experience. Members are charged a fee of $20.00 for the course. During the course, members will manufacture three items of jewellery, a bracelet, make a bezel and set a stone for a pendant, and make a pair of earrings. The three items are made of sterling silver, which is available from the Club at cost price. It is not necessary for members to have their own equipment before attending the instruction course, as sufficient equipment is available at the Club.
During the course, members are taught annealing, bending, filing, soldering, brazing, the use of fluxes, rollers and draw plates.
In making these three items members learn the basic skills needed to manufacture other items of jewellery and may then choose to make any item they wish, still with the help and guidance of the supervisor.
From time to time, members are also taught how to cast silver ( ideal for making trinkets for a charm bracelet ) and to manipulate and work silver, which will enable them to manufacture, not only items of jewellery, but also many other beautiful items in silver.
At times, professional people provide instructions and conduct courses.
